Certificate Fraud

Hello

I am a member of Crane Certification Association of America.  Today I was made aware of a disturbing situation.  Apparently someone tried to pass off a certificate of approval for a construction crane (Grove - TMS300 ) in order for it to be accepted on a job down in Florida.  The General Contractor for the job was suspicious of the certificate of mention.  He faxed it over and I determined it was a certificate quite similar to our own but also items that I would never have had on a certificate were quite evident as for one my signature was forged.

My questions to the organization has anyone been in the same situation and how did they proceed.  Also, does anyone know any contact person that might guide me with how I might want to proceed with this situation.

I would appreciate any guidance anyone may have.

    Hi Joe,
My only similar incident came when a customer tried to update his old Certification with current dating. He failed to do a good job of it and got caught. Was your incident the same-a customer trying to make up a cert. for another crane he owned or just an unknown owner forging your certificate? I suggest checking with your attorney for any legal remedies. The situation should be dealt with quickly and definitely to dissuade future occurrences.

Actually this was not a customer just someone that got ahold of a old certificate made his corrections and forged my name. Thankfully the GC was suspicious and altered me. Meanwhile, I am pursuing the situation. Grateful for reply.

Joe, Syd here, have you or anyone else run into fraudulant Cal-Osha Certs where the certifier has derated the crane in order to bypass the 15,000# capacity requirement in order to cert the crane without having a Calif. license operator? Why does this practice still continue?

    Sir,

I want to no about the crane certification in details Most of the times the contractor hires a crane which is neither checked before the new assignments, just to get his work he manages to get the certification from the third party how can i find that the certification is genuine and what does the actual certification certificate indicate in the report.

what about after some Maintenance carried out on site does it requires another Third party certificate for the same.

    Please reply.

      Devendra,
You must qualify your inspection agency. They either have to have OSHA Maritime Accreditation, Cal. OSHA license or A Certified Crane Surveyor card from the Crane Certification Assoc. of America. Without any of those credentials you can not be sure or their ability. Certification means that the crane meets all codes and is worthy to perform work. That is the inspector's job. He makes sure that the crane meets or exceeds the codes.
